National Speed Awareness Course

We offer the National Speed awareness Course as an alternative to prosecution for those who are eligible.

The criteria for being eligible to attend this course is:
Admission of being the driver received by the police within 42 days of the offence.

You can only attend & complete one speed awareness course in any 3 year period from the date of the offence. You will not be offered a course if you are in the process of booking or attending another speed awareness course nationally.
Speed must fall within the acceptable speed range (Speed limit + 10% +9mph) e.g., in a 30 mph limit – you could attend a course up to 42mph inclusive.

Our service provider is AADrivetech. They offer courses at various venues in Nottinghamshire and throughout other parts of the country.
If you live in another county and wish to attend a course closer to home you can book a course through another service provider.

Course duration is 4 hours, no driving is required.

The course consists of a four hour interactive presentation and discussion on all aspects of driving and speed control in particular, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

What’s Driving Us Course

If you have committed a Red Traffic Light offence you could be eligible to attend a What’s Driving Us Course as an alternative to prosecution.

To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:
An admission to being the driver of the vehicle to be received by the police within 42 days from the date of the offence.

You can only attend & complete one what’s driving us course in any 3 year period from the date of the offence. You will not be offered a course if you are in the process of booking or attending another what’s driving us course nationally.
Time into red does not exceed 3 seconds.
If under any circumstances the driver is unable to satisfy any of the above criteria, you will not be considered as eligible for this course.


As with the Speed awareness Course, Nottinghamshire Police provide these courses through AADrivetech. This course can also be taken in different parts of the country with other providers as long as they offer the nationally approved courses.

The course duration is 3½ hours – no driving required


The Course consists of an interactive presentation and discussion on all aspects of driving decision making in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. It will explore a number of well established driving myths and review a number of driving scenarios, including collisions, to understand their root cause.
